Denied By Our Daughter
We are a busy couple. We run five successful businesses and we also pastor a big church. We only have one child, a beautiful daughter we named Hope. Because we wanted the best for Hope, we sent her overseas to study at the age of thirteen. We paid her tuition and ensured she lacked nothing … or so we thought!.
We got busy with church and business activities, and before we knew it, it was graduation time for Hope who had done exceptionally well. We placed a call to her to attend her graduation and she responded thus:
“Sorry guys, I have been here for seven years and all I got from you was your financial support. Thank you for that. You were never there when I had period pains. You were never there when I suffered heartbreaks. You were never there when I needed someone to talk to before going to bed. You were never there when I cried myself to sleep. Each time I called, you were busy looking after your business and church. Your occasional phone calls would last for two minutes each time and each call was either to ask if I attended church service that week or to remind me not to spoil our family name. You never visited because you had things to do that were more important than me. You did not allow me to visit either, citing insecurity in the country. I am sorry. Please don’t attend my graduation, for I don’t know you.”
